
Two National qualifiers were held in the region again this year, due to the usual large entry list of 68 bowlers.
The first competition was held at the Grange Bowling Club, Warrington where from an entry of 43 bowlers Bernard Carroll (CCLRC Daresbury Lab) came out the winner defeating Steve Baskerville (DWP Altrincham)) 21-13 to qualify for the CSSC Nationals and the final of the North West regional trophy at the Waterloo Bowling Club, Blackpool on Thursday September 14th.

The plate competition proved a great success at the Grange, with Ian Burgess (DWP Birkenhead) winning the trophy, defeating Mary Wrench (Manchester) in the final.
In the second qualifier at the Subscription Bowling Club, Blackpool 25 entries were received, with David Waine (DWP Preston) being the winner beating Cliff Harris (Blackpool) 21-12 to gain his place in the North West final against Bernard Carroll, and to qualify for the CSSC National finals.

Nine bowlers from the region qualified for the National Finals, the above mentioned along with Derek Ainsworth (DWP Southport), Jacquie Lord (Inl,.Rev Stalybridge).Tim Kenyon (CCLRC Daresbury Lab), Frank Williamson (Morecambe) and Paul Whiteley (Blackpool).
